đThe Subtle Strength of Slowing Down - A Conversation with Julie Driver
âSometimes the small, simple things are the ones that create the biggest change.â
In a recent episode of the Equitas Podcast, Muireann joined by international Pilates teacher and movement educator, Julie Driver - a woman who has built her career (and rebuilt her body) around the belief that awareness, adaptability, and the smallest of shifts can change everything.
This isnât a conversation about aesthetics or quick fixes. Itâs about resilience, curiosity, and the long game of becoming betterâfor ourselves and our horses.

From Stage to Studio: The Unlikely Start
Julie didnât set out to become a Pilates teacher. In fact, she started as an actress in London, juggling TV commercials and bar work while navigating the highs and lows of auditions. But when her father passed away unexpectedly, something shifted. She wanted her work to mean somethingâto give back.
What began as a Sunday morning class became a calling. Her love for movement, paired with a deep curiosity about the body and an instinctive ability to connect with others, shaped a path that would eventually bring her back to horsesâand into the heart of the equestrian world.
Why Riders Are Turning to Pilates
Julie has been riding since childhood, and now combines her equestrian background with decades of Pilates teaching to support riders at every level. Whether working with elite eventers or everyday riders looking to improve comfort and balance, she sees the same thing:
âWhatever is going on in your body, your horse will feel it.â
Her approach is refreshingly grounded. Thereâs no pressure to perform or âget it rightâ. Instead, she offers insight into how riders can understand their own movement patternsâoften starting with something as small as how your feet land or whether youâre clenching your jaw.
Yes, really. Jaw tension and pelvic tightness? More connected than you'd think.
