Equitas is thrilled to announce that Anna May McHugh - Managing Director of the National Ploughing Association, will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Empowering Change Together Conference.

Anna May, is a venerated leader in agricultural innovation and community development bringing a wealth of experience and insight that aligns perfectly with the conference’s themes of community engagement and sustainable change.

Background and Achievements:

Living her entire life near Ballylinan, Co. Laois, Anna May has a deep-rooted connection to her community. She was educated at St. Patrick’s National School and St. Brigid's Secondary School in Athy, Co Kildare. Anna May began her illustrious career in 1952 as a secretary to the founder of the National Ploughing Association and quickly ascended to pivotal roles, including Secretary in 1956 and Managing Director in 1973.

Under her leadership, the National Ploughing Championships have grown into Europe’s largest agricultural event, drawing over 250,000 attendees annually. Her innovative approach has not only elevated the event but has significantly impacted the agricultural sector across Europe.

Board Memberships and Recognitions:

Anna May serves as a Board Member of the World Ploughing Organisation, Chairperson and Director of KFM Radio, and has held board positions at Teagasc and the Laois Enterprise Board. Her contributions have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 and the Veuve Cliquot Business Woman of the Year Award 2013. In recognition of her contributions to agriculture and community, she has received honorary doctorates from several esteemed institutions.

Commitment to Community and Sports:

Beyond her professional endeavours, Anna May has an impressive background in sports, holding five All-Ireland medals in camogie. Her commitment to GAA and her local community organisations reflects her dedication to fostering community spirit and promoting active lifestyles.
