The Power of Positivity

The Power of Positivity

Having recently taken part in the Equitas Challenge 2022 it was a fantastic opportunity too really think about how I felt regarding certain topics within the equine world.

One of the challenges was "In your opinion what challenges do women face in the Equine industry" I thought really hard about my response and came up with a few but one particular one really stood out and the result may surprise you. The biggest challenge I believe we face is us 'Women" possibly for some an odd response so stay with me whilst I explain.

By nature in my experience women are self critical and rather judgemental. Two big setbacks as far as trying to progress in a male dominated industry.
Being self critical inhibits our ability to have confidence in ourselves, our skills, qualities and experience. And our judgement of others stops the female equine world from evolving in a positive way.

I have myself in past years been judgemental of others and not just in the equine world. I've had many occasion I have been bought back down to earth with a bump. One particular day whilst on the school run I passed the same Mother I pass most days and looking at her I'd made up my mind she wasn't my kind of person, she didn't dress the way usual Mums on the school run did. Whilst waiting at the school gate I happened to be involved in a conversation with her and she is probably one of the nicest Mothers I've spoken to at the school gate.

Things like this continued to happen time and time again until I finally figured out it was me who needed to change. I felt like a weight had been lifted and I felt empowered to be non judgemental.

I think it's something we've all done at some stage in our lives but the important thing is to learn and grow from it.

We all have good days and bad days but trying to maintain a positive attitude for ourselves and others around us sends good energy al think we've all heard the quote "one good turn deserves another" and the same can be said for positivity, It sends a ripple effect.

If you see someone doing something well, work really hard or just wear a wonderful pair of shoes.Tell them. That gesture of positivity can change a persons whole day, week or even month. In order for us to grow and reach our goals it's important to remember to support each other on whichever path we choose to follow even if that path like myself takes you to a non conventional route.

A lyric from one of my favourite songs is "Always stay humble and kind" I think it's worth remembering and taking notice of our flaws so we can grow and send positivity throughout the Female equine world and beyond.
